Solar energy has gained prominence in the Middle East and Gulf countries, despite their status as major oil exporters. Governments in these regions are prioritizing clean energy, with significant investments driving sector development. Solar energy is expected to play a crucial role in supporting the region’s energy needs, marking a shift from traditional energy sources.

The Gulf countries are leading the shift towards renewable energy, particularly solar power, as part of their national plans to reduce emissions and diversify energy sources. Saudi Arabia aims to generate 50% of its electricity from clean sources by 2030, with major solar projects underway. The UAE plans to invest $136.5 billion in renewable energy by 2050, with Dubai targeting to be the lowest carbon city. Qatar is utilizing solar energy for infrastructure and public utilities, including eco-friendly stadiums for the 2022 World Cup. Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait are also investing in clean energy projects, while Egypt is witnessing significant growth in solar energy initiatives, with ambitious targets for renewable energy contribution to the national grid by 2035.
