Hackers are attempting to sell confidential information from millions of Santander staff and customers, claiming to belong to the same group that recently hacked Ticketmaster. Santander, a bank with a global workforce of 200,000, including 20,000 in the UK, has confirmed the data breach. They are actively reaching out to affected customers and employees. While certain information, including that of Santander customers in Chile, Spain, and Uruguay, has been accessed, the bank assures that no transactional data or credentials allowing transactions have been compromised. Meanwhile, ShinyHunters, the group behind the breach, has advertised the sale of extensive data, including bank account details, credit card numbers, and HR information. Though Santander has not verified these claims, ShinyHunters have a history of selling stolen data. The Australian government and the FBI are involved in investigating the breach. Additionally, cyber-security experts link the Santander breach to a larger hack targeting Snowflake, a major cloud storage company. Snowflake acknowledges unauthorized access to a limited number of customer accounts but states that no sensitive data was compromised, attributing the breach to stolen login credentials.
