Saudi Arabia has taken significant steps to promote sustainable digital practices, recycling over 100,000 electronic devices to reduce environmental damage. These efforts are part of the Kingdom’s broader strategy to build a sustainable digital future that optimizes resource utilization.

According to a report by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, Saudi Arabia has succeeded in leveraging modern technologies and creating innovative business models that contribute to the development of a sustainable future. These initiatives align with Saudi Arabia’s digital sustainability strategy, which aims to foster circular digital economy projects and establish regulations to curb electronic waste in three countries.

Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with over 40 international partners, launched the Green Digital Action Initiative at the 28th Conference of the Parties to enhance digital sustainability efforts. The Saudi Communications Authority has led the digital economy track, emphasizing the importance of government and industry collaboration to address gaps in electronic waste management.

Additionally, the Authority developed tools in collaboration with the Digital Cooperation Organization to assist in formulating digital sustainability strategies. These tools include five detailed steps: raising awareness, achieving best practices, developing the strategy, promoting coordination with relevant stakeholders, and initiating the implementation phase.

These initiatives reflect Saudi Arabia’s commitment to contributing to the green economy and sharing expertise with the international community to ensure the adoption of best practices for building sustainable societies.
